Necklace and earrings – 14 kt gold with diamonds

September 12, 2009

I wanted to make something really nice for myself. So I thought what kind of things I might like I got the idea of a necklace with matching earrings. A few years ago I bought myself a few diamonds but didn´t have the spesific idea to put them in. Now I wanted to make a necklace with one of the diamonds and make earrings with slightly smaller ones. I used a 17.5 point diamond in the necklace and a 10 point stone for each of the earrings.

This is how the necklace looks like

Gold earrings with Diamonds

August 4, 2009

I was thinking of making something for myself and I´ve been having this idea swimming around in my mind for a few months. So I made the earrings and than I ordered the diamonds to fit the earrings. It took a few weeks to get the diamonds but it was worth the wait. I love the movement of the earrings and the sparkle of the diamonds. I have for years been facinated with stones and when I got my first diamond ring at the age of 20 I didn´t have a clue what makes great diamonds. Now I know :) and I know exactly what I want. These earrings have each a 10 point white round cut diamond in a VS clarity and have G,H or I color ( I don´t have a grading system at home but I know I bought stones in this color batch).

I think they look absolutely gorgeous!

I will post a picture of them with the necklace that goes with them but for now I just post a picture of one of them in my ear. ;)

Zirkon heart

July 9, 2009

This is a Zirkon heart with a 14 kt gold wire on a gold chain. I bought a few Zirkon hearts a few years ago, some were colorless and some had color. I bought hearts that were drilled all the way down in the middle, only top drilled (like this one) and some were not drilled at all. Some were like this one, cut the same, front and back, and some were cut to be put in a setting. This one was the largest and I wanted it to be used with a gold chain so I put a 14 kt gold wire as a fastening on top of the stone. I like it so much that I´m wearing it almost constantly now. It looks very good!!!

My great friend Sigrún had a lovely daughter that was conforming her religion. I decided to give her something nice and sweet and this is what she got:

Gold Heart for Kolbrún Ósk, my beautiful sister :)

May 5, 2009

In April one of my sisters was confirming her religion and because of that I made her this 14 kt. gold heart. So now I have given all of my sisters gold hearts at their confirmations but only Kolbrún and Amanda got hand made ones. I didn´t belive in my ability to make beautiful things for beautiful people at the time Rebekka confirmed her religion so she got a store bought gold heart.

This heart looks really nice. It´s made out of 14 kt. gold wire and I hope Kolbrún Ósk likes it as much as I do :)

And it was presented in this cute black velvet and brass box, this way:

Gold necklace with Freshwater Pearl

June 24, 2008

This gold necklace was made last weekend. It has 2,5 cm long 14 kt gold sheet and a 4mm Freshwater Pearl dangling at the bottom.

It really looks a lot like Adda Lára´s birthday gift from the earlier post, with the same hammered texture and the same kind of Pearl. Very feminine and delicate looking necklace even if it is a bit larger than some of my other gold necklaces.

Birthday present- Adda Lára

June 20, 2008

In one of my former work places I got into very bad situation where there was a lot of talk behind my back. It was a strange place to work at and it taught me a lot regarding human behavior.

One of the women in that workplace is the lovely Adda Lára, a beautiful and smart woman that I will be forever thankful to. When she had her big birthday I wanted to make something very nice for her, a little “thank you so much for being the lovely and nice person that you are” type of gift.

A few years back I was window shopping on Laugavegur and saw this nice looking bracelet and thought to myself that I could make it if I wanted to. The idea of that bracelet has been with me ever since and when I took the silver smithing course in Kvöldskóli Kópavogur this winter/spring I asked Leifur, my teacher, if the bracelet could be made like my idea of it was. He said yes to that and then I made this lovely 14 kt gold bracelet with 4mm Freshwater Pearls.

I hope you love it my dear Adda Lára!

Gold ring with Garnet

March 31, 2008

This gold ring with the oval shaped Garnet was finished this weekend.

Two weeks ago I started on this ring but wanted to know how the stone has to be put in the setting the right way. My teacher at the silver smiting course, Leifur, taught me how to put the Garnet in the setting so it would be OK to use gloves. And also showed me how the stone must be fastened in the setting so the setting would not catch on clothing.

I bought this Garnet 2 or 3 years ago and finally I learned how to use this stone in a ring.

I like the deep red color of the Garnet and I was so proud of this ring I wore it to work today.

Gold ring with Lemon Quartz

March 31, 2008

This gold ring with Lemon Quartz was posted the other day but when I looked more closely at it I saw I needed to change it a little.

My silver smithing teacher took a look at it and agreed with me. So I took the stone out, fixed what needed to be fixed, put the stone back in the setting and polished the ring again.

So now it is perfect!
