Helga – name necklace

October 25, 2009

My lovely mother in law asked me to make her a name necklace and that I could easily do. We share the same first name and I really enjoyed making that necklace. To make my own name was fun and I know I will enjoy seeing her wearing it.

I actually enjoy seeing all of my things on their owners. I think it has something to do with the feeling of being happy with the idea that other people enjoy the things I make just as I enjoy making them.

I think the name looks great and I love how the letter M looks like and also the flow of the letters in the name!

Guðrún – name necklace

October 25, 2009

Bryndís María asked me to make a name necklace for her daughter, Guðrún. I know Bryndís María through my work where she used to work before I came on board. I find it incredibly sweet that her daughter has the name Guðrún because a friend we both know has that name and many of my coworkers and ex coworkers have that name too (people Bryndís María has worked with too). Her daughter is named after her grandmother but Bryndís María has been surrounded by lovely ladies with that name and I love the thought of her daughter having the same name as all of those great ladies :-)

This necklace is meant to be a Xmas present for the little girl and I hope she will enjoy it.

Amelía – name necklace

October 25, 2009

My lovely ex coworker Aiste had a daughter at the beginning of this year. Aiste owns a necklace made by me and she wanted her daughter to have a similar one. So I made her this one.It has the same kind of A as Aiste´s necklace.

I think it´s sweet that mother and daughter have both same kind of name necklaces :-)

Lilja – name necklace

October 25, 2009

My lovely ex coworker Linda and her friend Rósa both have name necklaces made by me. They have a friend, Lilja, and on her birthday in September they wanted her to have a name necklace too. I made this necklace for them so they could give their friend similar necklace as their own.

I think it looks pretty good and I hope Lilja likes it and enjoys wearing it :-)

Silver necklace for Jayne

October 7, 2009

My Forum friend, Kevin, asked me if I could make something for our Forum friend Jayne. It was a surprise for Jayne and me and Kevin didn´t breath a word about it. She just got it in the mail one day :) It did take some time to get to her because there was a postal workers strike during the time it was in transit but I think it got to her at the perfect time, when she needed it. I hope that it  will always be a ray of sunshine for her.

When I started on the design I began by looking through my treasure chest and the first stone I picked up, I found very interesting. It´s big, bold and beautiful in an orange color, with a big sparkle. The stone is a Zirkonia the color of Padparadscha Sapphire, which is a very expensive type of Sapphire that has it´s own name. A few years ago I bought it in London and this is the only stone I have ever bought the color of Padparadcha.

The silver sheet used in this design was put in a rolling mill with hand made paper so the imprint of the paper is seen on the sheet. So if you look closely at the pictures you see the handmade paper imprint ;)

I didn´t have any setting for the stone and was wondering what kind of setting I should make. When I was sitting in front of my work bench I got the idea of a special setting I´ve never made before. I don´t think I´ve ever seen a setting like this before either. It looks like the letter H on top but has a solid base. Since it´s my first time making this setting, I hope it works and will age well with the use of this piece.

Aventurine for Fríða

October 7, 2009

When I was a little girl an aunt, Fríða,who was and is living in USA came to Iceland to visit us. She and mom were joking about how I was so small I could fit into her travel case and come to USA to visit her. I´ve always been fond of this memory and when Fríða came to Iceland this fall/autumn and celebrated her birthday with her family I decided to make her something nice. I found in my treasure chest this doughnut shaped Aventurine and thought it would be cool to make something out of it. So I put a wire around the stone and had it shaped and soldered to fit a silver chain I had. The necklace looks great with a turtleneck sweater because the chain is thicker than the ones I´ve used so far and is long too.

I took a photo of the necklace in a light I bought this fall/autumn but it does not show the green of the stone. The stone looks kind of milky gray but it´s really light green. I must not use that light in the future when I take pictures of my designs so the color of the stones are visible.

I hope Fríða likes the necklace I made for her. I myself like the way I had the wire wrapped around the stone in a simple, cute and highly functional way!

Silver swirl with Freshwater Pearl – For Heather

October 7, 2009

When my Forum friend, Heather, asked if I could do something for her I thought of freshwater pearls. I had a white pearl in mind but when the idea of a very unusual necklace came to mind the color didn´t look right and I had to put a pale pink pearl instead. Basicly I had the design in my head but didn´t really have a clue how to make it look great outside of my head. I had some silver sheet with a big cut out circle and funny enough I started cutting up the sheet around the big circle and then bended it. I must confess I have no idea how my mind worked without me realizing how to make this necklace, but the outcome is brilliant!

This is something I´ve never done before and I think the idea is great and I love the necklace.

Every time I make something for people I know, I always hope they like the piece so much that they wear it often and enjoy it much. So I hope Heather does just that ;-)
