“Flower” with Aventurine

July 9, 2009

I sometimes think of special people and get ideas for jewelery for them. When that happens I just make the design and give the person I had in mind, when the idea came, the piece.

Last Tuesday I was letting my mind wander while I had my gemstones in a box beside me. Before I knew it I was thinking of a friend of mine in USA and his wife. I knew that my friends wife had a surgery a few months back and in my mind I saw her and then the idea of a “flower” with a green gemstone popped up in my head, rather fully formed. I got the feeling that I just had to make this design for Inger and I started on the piece. Then I sent my friend Lee an e-mail, asking him if I could give his wife a necklace. He liked the idea of his lovely wife getting a hand made specially designed necklace for her and sent me his address. And he told me Ingers favorite color is green ;-)

I enjoyed making this cute flower and I had fun with the idea, of how to make a flower. The bending of the silver disks I used in the design so it resembles an open flower. It does not lie flat but opens up, like a real flower would. And I love the fact that Inger likes green since I had put Aventurine in the flower (and as you can see it´s a green stone.)

Inger if you read this… I hope you enjoy the necklace and use it often :-)

Guðbjörg – a name necklace

July 9, 2009

My co worker Guðbjörg has been watching our co worker Gurrý with her name necklace. Guðbjörg is a lot longer name than Gurrý and she was wondering if I could make a name necklace for her. I said I could try and then I went home and started on this one.

Other name necklaces have been made with special letter types but this one is hand crafted by me. I just drew the letters in my head on the silver sheet and started with my had saw, to make the name like this. It was a lot easier than I thought it would and I´m very happy with the outcome. I got to have both ð and ö, special Icelandic letters, and that is always fun to make.

I hope Guðbjörg will be happy with her necklace and I hope to see her often with it ;-)

Earrings with Lava and Freshwater Pearls

July 9, 2009

I have been thinking about earrings lately. How I like to see them move and what type of stones I like. One co worker of mine likes her Lava Pearl earrings a lot and uses them often so when I was looking at what type of lava stones I have, at the back of my mind I was thinking about her earrings. She bought them from me last year and I always enjoy seeing her with them. She is a very elegant and beautiful woman and she carries them with style.

So… when I was thinking about earrings and going through my lava stones I got the idea of making earrings with Lava and Freshwater Pearls. In the end I used silver wire with a little silver drop (like a rain drop) to hold up the pearls. Those earrings have a lot of movement and I think they are rather cute!

Round and round we go…

July 9, 2009

I have been spending  some time in my garage for the last days. Going through my stuff and thinking of how I can take the ideas I get out of my head and make them “come to life”. Some ideas just pop into my head fully formed and others swim around, half glimpsed and half formed.

I was making a rather large necklace when I felt that the piece was utterly ugly and would never have any balance or beauty. I threw the parts away from me in frustration and then I looked at the pieces and felt that if I´d re-arrange some parts I could make something interesting out of them.

This is the outcome of that thinking, the formerly half formed idea made fully formed. I even tried the “new” diamond drill to make it look more different than my other designs. The circles, one with a big hole and the others full, were put together and then put on a silver snake chain. I´m still not sure if I prefer it on a snake chain or on a black leather cord but I´ll probably try it on both and then decide what I like more.

Round Ruby necklace

July 9, 2009

When I was having a little fun in my garage the other day I made this cute, 8 mm round Ruby necklace. When I was polishing it I felt that it was kind of dull when I was looking at it. Suddenly I thought of a diamond drill I had bought some time ago and decided to try it on this piece. I scratched the surface of the silver with the drill and I liked the look a lot better than with the half polished fire scale that I had on the design before.

Name necklace – Íris

July 9, 2009

My co worker, Tóta, has a daughter who has a birthday in July. Tóta owns a very nice looking gold necklace with her name and when she knew I made name necklaces she asked me if I could make one for her daughter. Of course I could but I told her that it would be in silver and it would take rather long to make because of a surgery I needed to have done. Since she asked me in May if I could do the Íris name necklace I was able to make it before the birthday. It has the special Icelandic letter Í and I always like to make names with Icelandic letters (I also liked doing Aisté because her name had a dot, not a comma, over the last a… a special Lithuanian letter that I made specially for her :-) ).

I hope Íris will like her birthday present from her mother. I think it looks very cute!

Zirkon heart

July 9, 2009

This is a Zirkon heart with a 14 kt gold wire on a gold chain. I bought a few Zirkon hearts a few years ago, some were colorless and some had color. I bought hearts that were drilled all the way down in the middle, only top drilled (like this one) and some were not drilled at all. Some were like this one, cut the same, front and back, and some were cut to be put in a setting. This one was the largest and I wanted it to be used with a gold chain so I put a 14 kt gold wire as a fastening on top of the stone. I like it so much that I´m wearing it almost constantly now. It looks very good!!!
