Auður-name necklace

My coworker Andrés asked me to make a necklace for his niece. He wanted to give her something very special and when I suggested a name necklace we both agreed that it would be a very nice gift.

I think this necklace looks very good. I love the first letter, “A”, and even if I had to make the last part of the “r” a little bit bigger so I could fit the link in there, I still think the necklace turned out to be a very nice looking design.

When I first started out doing the name necklaces I used some letters/fonts I liked but now I improvise a lot so there will be a certain balance in the piece that the letters them selfs don´t have. I did improvise too with my earlier necklaces but now I´m almost not using the letters at all. The flow of the letters must match so the necklace won´t break easily. And that is something I´m very good at… improvising

I always like doing names with special Icelandic letters because you can´t get name necklaces in stores with them. And I liked doing “ð” because it shows it so well that this necklace is handmade.

I hope Auður will like her necklace when Andrés gives it to her.

Kristín- name necklace

Júlíana, my co worker, asked me to make a necklace with the name Kristín for her daughters friend. Of course I was willing to do that for her and this is how the necklace turned out to be.

I really like the first letter, K, I think I made that letter very beautifully. It kind of defines the necklace… or so I feel:)

I also try to make each necklace that has an Icelandic letter like the name as it is written. Like the í in Kristín. Because Kristin is just not the same as Kristín!

Rock Crystal

This necklace is made with a huge Rock Crystal from my friends Franki and Arthur in Australia. They sent me some stones from their country and when I looked at this one I knew I would make something for myself with this big and beautiful rock. It is cut on one side so you can look inside the crystal and see the depth and clarity.

I´m not sure those pictures really do the stone justice but they show the general look of the design. It has silver sheet around the stone and a long silver chain, so it really looks very good on turtleneck sweaters. I was thinking about making something that goes nicely with them and when I looked at the stone I knew it would be excellent for that.
