Guðbjörg´s birthday present

June 30, 2008

This is the necklace Guðbjörg chose when I showed her the 2 necklaces she could choose from when she had her birthday last year. This is a silver sheet with a gold wire in a “swirl” on a black rubber cord and the fastening at the back is made in silver (not shown).

Freyja-necklace and earrings

June 30, 2008

Freyja bought some years ago a set of earrings and necklace. It was very popular and I had 4 textures so people could choose different look if they wanted to give as gifts the same pieces but still have their own look.

Freyja lost a silver sheet from one of the earrings and I replaced it for her over the weekend. I thought it was kind of fun seeing that the set was made in 2005 (I try to put my initials and the year the piece was made, on every piece).

This is a picture of her set:

Gold necklace with Freshwater Pearl

June 24, 2008

This gold necklace was made last weekend. It has 2,5 cm long 14 kt gold sheet and a 4mm Freshwater Pearl dangling at the bottom.

It really looks a lot like Adda Lára´s birthday gift from the earlier post, with the same hammered texture and the same kind of Pearl. Very feminine and delicate looking necklace even if it is a bit larger than some of my other gold necklaces.

Birthday present- Adda Lára

June 20, 2008

In one of my former work places I got into very bad situation where there was a lot of talk behind my back. It was a strange place to work at and it taught me a lot regarding human behavior.

One of the women in that workplace is the lovely Adda Lára, a beautiful and smart woman that I will be forever thankful to. When she had her big birthday I wanted to make something very nice for her, a little “thank you so much for being the lovely and nice person that you are” type of gift.

A few years back I was window shopping on Laugavegur and saw this nice looking bracelet and thought to myself that I could make it if I wanted to. The idea of that bracelet has been with me ever since and when I took the silver smithing course in Kvöldskóli Kópavogur this winter/spring I asked Leifur, my teacher, if the bracelet could be made like my idea of it was. He said yes to that and then I made this lovely 14 kt gold bracelet with 4mm Freshwater Pearls.

I hope you love it my dear Adda Lára!

Name necklace- Hera

June 20, 2008

This name necklace was made for my coworker Kristín. She wanted to give her relative something extra special and asked me to do this name, Hera, and of course I did.

Every name is special and each name necklace is a lot of work. The small letters are really hard to make right and I try to stick to the lettertype but I usually have to thicken the connection between each letter and sometimes I can´t use some of the letters because then the piece gets to fragile. In this name I had to change the “r” to fit better with the rest of the letters and the outcome is beautiful, just like every other name necklaces I have made so far:o)

Rósa´s name-necklace

June 12, 2008

My ex coworker, the sweet and beautiful Linda, was so happy with her name necklace I made in exchange for her stitching work. Her friend, Rósa, told her she liked her necklace too and since Linda is such a thoughtful and nice friend, she asked me to make a name necklace with the name Rósa for her friend. And of course I did. I used the same letter type as Linda´s but changed the s a little so the necklace wouldn´t be brittle. The connection between letters must be thick enough to make the necklace durable for use for a long time. My supplier of chains didn´t have the delicate anker chains I usually use in the name necklaces so I had a bit thicker chain but it still looks very good.

Linda gave Rósa the name necklace and when I heard from Linda today, she told me that Rósa loved the necklace.

I like all of the name necklaces because they are one of a kind and really personal. The ones I know the stores make, can not have the special Icelandic letters (or letters like in Aiste name, see older post) since they are not handmade and are only done in some machine with English letters. To me that is kind of off putting so I really take pride in doing all the name necklaces in such manner that make me happy and make me think the owner will love it.

This is Rósa´s necklace and I hope she loves it:)

Anný´s birthday gift

June 9, 2008

I have a very good friend that I have known for almost 14 years. Her name is Anný and she is one of the few people I look up to. When I knew she would have her 40th birthday party this spring I wanted to make something for her that she could wear, something I really felt would look good on her.

So I took a 14 kt gold sheet, burnt the edges and hand engraved a very old Calligraphy letter A on it.

When I arrived (very late) at the party I saw she hadn´t put any necklace on and I was very quick to ask her to wear it:o) It looks very good on her and I hope she likes it very much since it was made with much love, admiration and respect!

Anný is one of very few people I trust completely to do her best for others. The fact that she has chosen to work for the social services and children´s welfare makes me respect her very much. I think she is one of the toughest heroes of our time, doing her job with other peoples interest in mind and wanting the best for people. Empathy is a great strength and I´m convinced her great heart does wonders for the people who need help.

I decided to go on a glass melting course in March for 4 evenings. On one of the evenings I made this bowl and I always knew I wanted to give Anný it when she would have the big birthday party:o)

So she got both the bowl and the necklace for a birthday present:o)
