John´s gift

When I was making jewelery in January I got this idea for a gift to John Connolly, my favorite writer. I don´t know him at all but he has a website I like and on it there is a Discussion Forum where his readers and fans can ask him questions and he actually answers them.

The idea is so beautiful it made me smile.. and of course it made me think of him and his books.

I stumbled on one of his book in the year 2000 when I was browsing the book store Penninn/Eymundsson in Austurstræti. It was “Every Dead Thing” in paperback and I bought it. I had only read the first part of the book when I thought “I must buy all of his books, this is so good” and to my surprise this was his first! So I thought “If his first book is that good, how will the others be?” and since then I have bought all of his books and enjoyed them very much.

I took a silver smithing course in February to May this year and in it I designed cuff links for John. Since he is a writer the idea of an open book struck my mind like a lightning and since I like letters I had to put his initials in the books. I hand engraved his letters on the silver sheet and I think the cuff links look very good.

When I met him in London on the 15th of May I gave him the cuff links. I´d been worried I might get very embarashed giving a total stranger something I made for him but it went surprisingly well:o)

Quartz on a snake chain

This necklace has a Quartz, cut like a disco ball, and it sparkles a lot. The stone is colorless and no inclusions can be seen in the stone. I bought this stone last year from USA and I liked it so much I bought more last month and the order got to me last Friday. It was almost like Christmas getting all the stones and stuff for jewelery making! And it felt really good since I´m still recovering from an eye surgery I had last Wednesday.

I like this necklace and I think that the Quartz looks very good on the snake chain.

Quartz with Goldstein, snake chain

This necklace has a Quartz nugget and a small oval shaped Goldstein. This Quartz is one of a few I got from Denmark last month and the Goldstein is also from Denmark. Last time I traveled to Denmark in October last year, I got a few of them. They have a black color with some blue sparkle but I also have a Goldstein with a golden sparkle. It´s always nice to look at different stones and see how they look and feel.

Lava Pearl with Red Coral, snake chain

This necklace has a Lava Pearl and Red Coral. I just got the Red Coral last Friday from USA and I really liked seeing that the Red Coral is the same size as the Lava Pearl I bought in March. This necklace looks cool and is one of the necklaces that will be sent to Norska húsið this week.

Hematite and Red Coral, snake chain

This necklace has Hematite and Red Coral. I just bought the Hematite last month from Denmark and got the Red Coral last Friday from USA. I really like the red color of the Coral and it goes very nicely with the silver color of the Hematite.

Lemon Quartz on snake chain

This necklace has an oval shaped Lemon Quartz, very simple, on a snake chain. The Quartz has a slight yellow color and a disco ball cut.

One of my friends was traveling in USA and she ordered some stones for me there and took it home with her. This is one of the stones I got from her last Friday!

Smokey Quartz necklace, snake chain

This necklace has two balls of Smokey Quartz. This necklace is one of a few that remind me of women. The lower ball is the body and the top ball is the head:o)

The lower Quartz is from USA and I got it last Friday, the upper one is from Denmark and I got that one last month. Even if they are not from the same place they still go very nicely together:o)

This will be sent to Norska húsið this week since they open on the 31st of May.

A group photo from London

I decided to go to London and see my favorite writer talk about writing and things related to him and his books. After the talk I got some of my books (by him) signed.

John and some of his readers from the London meeting went to a pub and there this picture was taken. On it you can see Stuart, Douglas, Sarah, Daryl, John, Kieron, Thigi and myself.

Here am I with John after he signed some of my books, I took 6 of them with me to London and bought the new one, The Reapers, in Borders.

Handmade chain/necklace with Lava Pearls and Fluorite

This necklace is handmade, every part of it. I used a silver wire and made it into many squares, the bigger ones have Lava Pearls and Fluorite. The necklace can be worn like a long chain or taken together like in the picture. I like the shape of the wire and the colors of the Fluorite with the black Lava Pearls.

It takes many hours to do one chain/necklace like this but I like this kind of jewelery so I don´t mind if it takes some time in the making!

Howlit with Jasper, necklace

This necklace has an oval Howlit and a small Jasper Pearl that goes very nicely together. It reminds me of a person, the Howlit is the body and the Jasper is the head:o)
