Silver hairpiece, pin with Zirkon

March 31, 2008

I´ve had an idea of making a hairpiece for a long time and finally I decided to make one for me. My ex-coworker Bjarni has some books about all kinds of nice looking letters and 7 years ago I took photocopies of some of the letters I liked.

I never would have guessed I´d use them in jewelery but that is the beauty of the mind. It takes all kinds of informations and the outcome can be marvelous.

This hairpiece was made over 2 weekends and each letter is handmade on the silver sheet. I just looked at the photocopied letters and drew them on the silver sheet with a pen. Then I used a small hand drill to etch the letters on the silver and finally I used an etching pen to make the outlines of the letters stand out more clearly. Then I oxidized the letters to make them more visible.

The hairpiece has my name in capital letters: HELGA.

What a lovely idea and a wonderful design!

Since I like things that glitter and shine I put a 10mm Zirkon on the pin that holds my long hair in place.

I must admit I really like this piece and sometimes even I surprise myself in my designs. This one is great and I feel so good about myself when I´m able to do something so beautiful. I have the greatest (and most fun) hobby in the world:o)

Gold ring with Garnet

March 31, 2008

This gold ring with the oval shaped Garnet was finished this weekend.

Two weeks ago I started on this ring but wanted to know how the stone has to be put in the setting the right way. My teacher at the silver smiting course, Leifur, taught me how to put the Garnet in the setting so it would be OK to use gloves. And also showed me how the stone must be fastened in the setting so the setting would not catch on clothing.

I bought this Garnet 2 or 3 years ago and finally I learned how to use this stone in a ring.

I like the deep red color of the Garnet and I was so proud of this ring I wore it to work today.

Gold ring with Lemon Quartz

March 31, 2008

This gold ring with Lemon Quartz was posted the other day but when I looked more closely at it I saw I needed to change it a little.

My silver smithing teacher took a look at it and agreed with me. So I took the stone out, fixed what needed to be fixed, put the stone back in the setting and polished the ring again.

So now it is perfect!

Silver earrings with Lava Pearls and silver balls

March 27, 2008

These earrings with Lava Pearls I really like. The shape of them is very good looking and they look very nice on people. The Lava Pearls I like very well at the moment and the little silver balls with the diamond cut are really nice too.

They look really cool!

Silver “moon”

March 27, 2008

This is one of the “moon” necklaces I´ve made. This one is a little wider than the others, maybe a little “fuller” :o )

Very simple and sweet for everyday wear.

This silver “shield” is the third one I made. The others have been posted earlier, with Lavender and Blue Zirkon. This one has Green Zirkon and the necklace has a square snake chain that glitters very nicely with every movement.

Silver heart with Swarovski Pearls

March 27, 2008

This silver heart is one of the few silver hearts I made with Swarovski Pearls. Each one has different color pearl and because they are all handmade, each of them is unique.

I think they are really sweet!

Silver necklace with Jasper

March 21, 2008

This necklace I made with a large Jasper stone in “donut” shape I found in London last summer. The design just popped up in my head and I had to make it to get it out of my head. It´s very simple but I find simple to be best most of the times. The simpler the better:o)

I have a long and thick silver chain with it. The necklace looks very good on a turtleneck sweater.

Silver earrings with Pink Pearl

March 21, 2008

These earrings I made just for fun. I just bought some Pink Pearls from Denmark and this is what I wanted to make right away. They are kind of cute, I must admit!
